Allergy shopping goes wrong in a predictable way. Above H13, the difference between grades is a rounding error on a single pass. Pollen, Dust, Dander, and Mold Are Four Different Problems

Allergy and asthma guidance generally treats four to five air changes an hour as a floor, and asks for more when a shedding pet or an open pollen season keeps feeding the room. Notice what that implies. The cheapest machine here technically clears the bar on paper in a small bedroom, but only at full speed, where it hits 40 dB. The hard part is not reaching the number. Why H13 Is the Ceiling That Matters

Sealed construction is the one filtration argument worth paying for, because a grade means nothing if air routes around the media through gaps in the housing. That is the case Dyson makes for the Purifier Cool TP07, and it is legitimate engineering. It is just hard to justify at $530 when Dyson publishes no CADR at all.
The Square Footage on the Box Is Not Your Room Size
Every brand quotes two coverage numbers and hopes you read the bigger one. The AHAM figure is measured at roughly 4.8 air changes an hour. The marketing figure is measured at one air change an hour, meaning the machine touches all the air in the room once every 60 minutes, which is close to useless for allergy control. The gap is enormous. Blueair rates the 211i Max at 635 square feet AHAM and markets 3,235 square feet at 1 ACH. Honeywell's HPA300 is 465 square feet AHAM against a 2,250 square feet in one hour headline. The Levoit Core 400S is 433 square feet AHAM against 1,733 square feet per hour. Medify's MA-40 is 420 against 1,793. Use the AHAM number, then buy above it. If your bedroom is 200 square feet, a purifier rated for 219 square feet - the Levoit Core 300S or the Blueair Blue Pure 411i Max, both at 141 CADR - reaches about five air changes an hour, but only on its top setting. A machine rated for 380 or 635 square feet reaches the same result at a middle or low speed, which is quieter, draws less power, and is the setting you will actually leave it on. Oversizing here is not vanity. It is how you buy silence.
Run It 24/7 on Low, Not in Bursts
Allergen load is a flow problem, not a stock problem. Dander and spores are produced continuously, and pollen leaks in every time a door opens. Bedroom First, Then the Room You Live In
If you buy one purifier, put it in the bedroom. You spend seven to nine hours a night in a single small closable volume, and it is the room where dust mite allergen, pet dander, and pollen carried in on hair all concentrate around your face. When a Purifier Is the Wrong Purchase
There are cases where the honest answer is not to buy one, or not to buy one yet. If dust mites are your only trigger, buy allergen encasements for the mattress and pillows and wash bedding hot before spending anything on a machine. The allergen is heavy and mostly lives in fabric, so a purifier only removes the airborne minority. If your problem is visible mold or a musty basement, the purifier is treating a symptom while spores keep arriving. Get the humidity down and the leak fixed, then filter what is left. If you keep windows open through pollen season, no CADR figure rescues you, because a purifier is competing with the outdoor air exchange rate and an open window wins that contest every time.
