Dyson V15 Detect Plus vs Dyson V11: Sealed HEPA and Suction Decide It
Both are premium Dyson sticks with the same silhouette, the same 60-minute runtime claim, the same anti-tangle brush, and the same pet tool. If you're here, you're deciding whether the V15 Detect Plus justifies its extra $180 over the still-expensive V11 — or whether the cheaper model gives up anything you'll actually miss. The differences are narrower than the price gap suggests, but two of them are real.
The short answer
Pick the Dyson V15 Detect Plus if suction is what you are buying for — 7/10 against 5/10.
Pick the Dyson V11 if the budget is the constraint — it does the same job for $180 less.

Suction: for once, a fair number
Because both vacuums are Dyson, both are rated in Air Watts — 240 AW on the V15, 185 AW on the V11 — so this is one of the rare matchups where the suction figures actually compare. The V15 has roughly 30% more on paper, and the engine reflects it: 7/10 versus 5/10. One caveat: Air Watts only means something against other Air Watts. Line either up against a kPa-rated brand and the numbers tell you nothing.
Filtration splits them; runtime doesn't
This is the upgrade that matters. The V15 has a fully sealed HEPA system; the V11 does not. Sealed means the fine dust and allergens the vacuum captures can't leak back out through the seams — the real dividing line for allergy, asthma, or pet households. Runtime, by contrast, is a wash: both claim 60 minutes, both score 4/10, and both hit that number only in eco mode with a non-motorized tool. On Max with the powerhead, expect a small fraction of it.
Handling ties; the price gap buys two things
On weight they're effectively identical — 6.8 lb versus 6.6 lb, both 6/10 for handling. Both are front-heavy sticks that put the weight in your wrist, so both tire you on stairs and overhead; the 0.2 lb difference changes nothing. Neither ships with a dock here. So the V15's extra $180 buys exactly two things that count: more suction and sealed HEPA. The Detect laser is a bonus — genuinely useful for spotting fine dust on hard floors, a gimmick on carpet.
Choose the Dyson V15 Detect Plus if…
- Higher overall score: 5.7/10 against 5/10
- Better suction: 7/10 against 5/10
Choose the Dyson V11 if…
- Costs $180 less: $570 against $750
Verdict
The V15 Detect Plus wins this matchup, and the engine agrees — 5.7 versus 5.0 overall — on the strength of its suction and sealed HEPA. Choose it if you have allergies, pets, or hard floors and can absorb $750. The V11 is the value pick at $180 less: same handling, same anti-tangle brush, same pet tool, for buyers who don't need sealed filtration. Just know that neither delivers the 60-minute runtime you'll see on the box once you switch to Max.

Scores come from published manufacturer specs, normalized 1 to 10 across the whole catalog: suction (suctionAw, AW), runtime (runtimeMin, min), handling (weightLb, lb). The overall figure is the weighted mean of those dimensions, and the same weights apply to every model on the page.
